Radiographs are the technical name for X-rays. They are used to examine the anatomy of the internal structures of horses, either for diagnosis of a disease or before purchasing a horse to confirm that it is sound.

Mobile X-ray services can be provided for horses needing X- rays.

Full lameness work ups are also provided to our equine clients.

Quality of life and Euthanazia

Quality of life & Euthanasia

We want to help you through the process

A final act of kindness

Our pets bring joy and enrichment to our lives. The responsibility of a pet owner starts with adoption, vaccines, food, water, proper housing, exercise, love and attention, but often ends in a difficult and emotional end of life decision. We see this as the final act of kindness for our pets in allowing a pain-free, loving, and compassionate environment where they can pass surrounded by people who care for them.

we help you through the process

The process of coming to see a veterinarian when it is time to assess your pet’s quality of life and decide if it is time to ease their pain through the process of euthanasia is never easy. It does not get easier no matter how many times you are in this situation; being an advocate for your beloved pet means doing the right thing for them when the time comes.

Having gone through this process ourselves, we want to help you through the process from the exam to deciding on euthanasia and cremation options.

Things to ponder over:

  • Would you like your pet’s ashes returned back to you? We offer several cremation options.
  • Would you rather prepay for everything, prior to this appointment, over the phone?
  • Do you prefer an exam room you do not normally use?
  • Would you rather have a house-call for this service? (Distance away and urgency may determine if this option is possible. Additional house call and mileage fees will apply)
  • Would you or your children benefit from written materials on grieving and loss?  (We have materials in our hospital, free of charge)

Microchipping

Microchipping

We would like to increase awareness about the importance of microchipping and/or tattooing pets

Pet Identification is important

Our mission is to increase the number of pets with identification so that when they are lost or stolen, they may be reunited with their owners.

Important STATS

Based on SPCA statistics, less than 2% of cats and only 15-20% of dogs with no form of identification are reunited with their owners. Nearly 95% of animals with identification are returned to their pet parents.

Permanent

The microchip is permanent which means it will not require replacing, nor will it require a battery and/or maintenance. The microchip is placed underneath the skin between the shoulder blades using a special needle.

Simple Procedure

Placing a microchip is a simple, effective procedure that can be performed on an animal as early as eight weeks of age. Microchips do not require sedation to be placed in an animal and the insertion process is safe and quick. The microchip itself is about the size of a grain of rice and is housed in a glass-like material; this material is not in danger of causing a reaction from the animal’s body nor will it rust or break.

Each microchip is differentiated with a number; using a special scanner, veterinary hospitals and shelters will be able to retrieve this individual number. Once the microchip number is retrieved, contacting the national registry will allow your contact information to be accessed, prompting the quick return of your lost friend. If you are not comfortable with your contact information on the registry you may opt to have your veterinary hospital contacted who will then contact you. These microchips are traceable throughout South Africa and many parts of the rest of the world. They are truly an invaluable tool in the return of a lost pet. Keep in mind that microchips are not Global Positioning Systems (GPS) but are instead more akin to a barcode.
